Ride the Storm is a national call to action from the Gulf South climate justice frontlines — an invitation to walk, bike, kayak, run, or roll in solidarity with the communities forever changed by Hurricane Katrina. Twenty years after Hurricane Katrina, we move together to honor the survivors, stories, and ongoing struggle for climate justice.
- Make the scale of climate disasters real. Katrina’s 144-mile-wide impact zone reminds us that climate change is vast — and personal. We move in remembrance of the scale, and the stakes.
- Reach and reconnect the Katrina diaspora. Over a million people were displaced. Many never returned. Together we’re building a living map of movement and memory — from the Gulf South to every corner of the country and beyond.
- Grow the power of frontline communities by sharing stories, claiming public space, and moving together, we grow the collective strength of those most impacted by climate disaster. This is how we ride for justice, survival, and joy.
OPTION ONE: HOST YOUR OWN RIDE! You don’t need a big crowd or fancy gear to Ride the Storm — just a few people and a shared commitment to remember, honor, and move together.
Step 1: Gather your Krewe.
Circle up with your friends, neighbors, coworkers, cousins — anyone who wants to move in solidarity. Groups as small as 3 people can join the Impact Ride, and organizations can host rides too!
Step 2: Choose Your Date & Time.
The official Katrina 20 Week of Action is August 24–31, 2025. Pick a day that works for your crew — or dedicate something you’re already planning as a #Katrina20 Impact Ride. If you’re flexible, we encourage groups to ride in solidarity on Sunday, August 31 to help close out the Week of Action.
Step 3: Plan Your Route.
Decide where you’ll start and end your ride. We encourage rides to be around 7 miles — a powerful number drawn from the 144-mile storm front of Katrina divided by 20 years since landfall. That said, your ride can be shorter or longer. What matters is that you ride with purpose.
Step 4: Register Your Ride. You’ll have the option to make your ride public, so others can find it and join or keep it private, just for you and your krewe.

Step 5: Share the Moment.
During or after your ride, snap a photo of your krewe and post it using the hashtags: #Katrina20 #RideTheStorm. You can find sample posts, graphics, and a full social media toolkit here (Coming Soon!) to help you amplify your ride and connect with others across the country.
OPTION TWO: JOIN AN EXISTING RIDEWant to ride with others near you? Check out the
