TAPROOT NOIRE

A formation of climate leadership across the global Black Diaspora.

Rooted at Taproot Earth, Taproot Noire (TN) is an international formation connecting Black leaders across the global Black diaspora to support and to strengthen global Black leadership in the climate movement.

Recognizing that Black communities have long stewarded land, water, and energy systems while bearing disproportionate climate harm, the Taproot Noire network seeds and advances climate solutions rooted in frontline knowledge, cultural memory, and collective care.

WHAT TAPROOT NOIRE DOES

Taproot Noire creates space for connection, strategy-sharing, and collective learning among Black climate leaders working across various regions and contexts. This formation uplifts and exchanges:

Models of collective self-governance and self-determination

Collaborative stewardship practices protecting land, water, and food systems.

Solutions and strategies rooted in local control

Replicable frontline solutions emerging from lived experience

By connecting leaders across borders, Taproot Noire shifts the political lines that separate toward connection points that advance frontline solutions, culturally grounded, politically informed, and scalable without extraction.

WHERE & WHY TAPROOT NOIRE WORKS

Taproot Noire is global, linking Black leaders across Africa, the Americas, Europe, the Caribbean, Latin America and the global Black diaspora. This formation centers frontline communities navigating climate impacts shaped by colonialism, racial capitalism, and resource extraction.

Taproot Noire works because it recognizes that frontline solutions already exist and that global Black leadership is essential to shaping climate futures rooted in repair rather than exploitation.

This formation advances Taproot Earth’s #WeChooseNow initiative by advocating for communities most impacted by climate harm to lead the response, implementing tangible elements to achieving  Global Climate Reparations.

We honor, strengthen and connect the wisdom already in motion across the global Black Diaspora. As the original Peoples of the planet, members of Taproot Noire have a leading role to play in achieving Climate Justice.
